INDIA-UAE BILATERAL MEETING ON SIGNING OF
SECURITY COOPERATION AND TRANSFER OF
JAILED PERSONS
UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lieutenant-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram signed the agreements in New Delhi.
India and United Arab Emirates (UAE), on November 23rd signed agreements in New Delhi on security cooperation and transfer of sentenced persons. The Agreements approved was signed by the visiting UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Indian Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram. The agreement will given sentenced prisoners in the UAE and India an option to spend remaining part of their sentence in their home country. While Indo-UAE Agreement on Security Cooperation will facilitate collaboration to fight international crimes including terrorism, money-laundering and cyber security by sharing intelligence and training facilities. There are around 1,200 Indians imprisoned in the UAE for various crimes, including on drugs and finance-related charges.
Apart from signing agreements UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan also meet with Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi.
